« Resonance »
An invitation to explore Tunisia’s cultural and civilizational richness while embracing a promising future
As part of Tunisia’s preparations for its participation in the Expo Osaka 2025—to be held in Japan from April 12 to October 13, 2025—and in order to support ongoing efforts and accelerate preparations to ensure an outstanding national presence, the General Commission of Tunisia for this exhibition, in coordination with the Order of Architects of Tunisia, organized an idea competition to develop the scenographic concept and design the visitor journey for the national pavilion. This pavilion will be located on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, within the « Saving Lives » exhibition zone, under the theme:
« Partnering in Innovation, Science, and Technology to Save Lives. »
The winning project, titled « Resonance », was designed by architect Mourad Zoghlami in collaboration with Japan-based architect Mariem Chaieb Berayana. This design stands out for its harmonious fusion of deep-rooted civilization and modern innovation, as well as its use of cutting-edge visual technologies.
A Journey into the Heart of Tunisia’s Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025: An Immersive Experience Rooted in History and Culture
The innovative architectural design of the national pavilion offers visitors a cultural voyage, where the grandeur of history blends with a forward-looking vision of a promising future. This immersive journey begins with a façade infused with the scent of jasmine, a symbol of elegance and purity, leading to a mosaic masterpiece that illustrates Tunisia’s deep civilizational and cultural heritage.
Despite the limited surface area of the Tunisian pavilion (300 m²), the design—reflecting the three key components of Tunisia’s national participation:
- Water resource management and optimization,
- Healthy local products and culinary heritage,
- Advancements in science and medicine
aims to make history and civilization resonate in every corner. It offers a journey through time, integrating the power of the past, the depth of the present, and the dynamism of the future.
At this world expo, the Tunisian national pavilion will embody a bold vision where tradition meets innovation to create an immersive and captivating experience. More than just an exhibition space, it is an invitation to explore Tunisia’s cultural and civilizational wealth with a forward-looking perspective, where tradition and modernity merge to help shape a better world.
A national pavilion where the boundaries of time and space dissolve, redefining the relationship between moments. Where the Japanese concept of « Ma » meets the Tunisian « Sekifa », striking a balance and harmony across the pavilion’s components:
- « The Echo »
- « The Impulse »
- « The Awakening »
- « The Essence »
Transforming silence into language and emptiness into a space where time expresses itself freely. Here, the past becomes a diffuse shadow, and the future a hidden promise, as if walking along a path of deep contemplation, where each moment marks a new beginning.
It is worth noting that the General Commission of Tunisia for Expo Osaka 2025, chaired by Mourad Ben Hassine, CEO of the Export Promotion Center (CEPEX), assembled a jury of nine members, representing both the public and private sectors, primarily composed of architects, to evaluate and select the artistic proposals submitted for the competition.
The General Commission also plans to organize a press conference in the near future, where various aspects of Tunisia’s national pavilion will be unveiled. This event will feature the presentation of a virtual reality film, as well as highlights of the key preparatory steps leading up to the expo.
